40 goals recorded on 2017 Africa Cup for Club Championship Day 1

Nairobi Hockey Pitch was on fire, yesterday, as 12 teams battled each for the Africa Cup for Club Championship. Teams from Ghana, Uganda, Egypt and host nation – KENYA made their mark at the end of Day 1.

Men

At 08H15 Exchequers (GHA) gave Weatherhead Men of Uganda some level game to talk about. Emmanuel Morrison (1), Maxwell Osei (1), Elikem Akaba (1), Joseph Appiah (1) and Emmanuel Ankomah (2) recorded their names on the score sheets of Exchequers whiles Uganda side – Weatherhead Men gave 2 consolation goals to end the game. The match, though keenly contested, set the pace for others prepare for the Championship.

Sharkia Hockey Club of Egypt surprised Kenyans as the beat Butali Warriors 2 goals to nil. Butali Warriors, who failed to utilize chances during the game, were punished by Ayman Khalil and Ahmed Jimy as they resist the pressure mounted on them by Sharkia. They left the defence for Sharkia to handle of which they did perfectly.

Wananchi Men of Uganda gave of their best by securing 2 goals but was cancelled by Kenya Police with 4 undeniable goals. Kenya Police took charge of the game from start to finish. They made the game theirs but were punished twice when their defence lost control of the ball.

Women
GRA LADIES of Ghana sparked the stadium with 11 solid goals. They thrilled the spectators with their persistent style of play whiles taking chances consecutively to make the game theirs. Wananchi Women couldn’t resist the pressure mounted on them during the game. Their defence lost it all making bit easy for the Ghanaian to beat them with such a margin.

Sliders of Kenya also kept their momentum in good shape as they netted 6 goals against Weatherhead Women 3 goals. Sliders gave Weatherhead Women of Uganda something to think about as they suffocated them during the game.

El-Raufai Babes (Nigeria) shared points with Sharkia Women of Egypt as their match ended the day. Both team played their heart out but couldn’t win. They ended up sharing 4 goals to with 2 for each team
