A new era for Ghana Hockey
The 2018 Ghana Hockey Association congress held at the conference room of the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium on Saturday 7th July, 2018 came to a successful end with Ghana gas CEO and Chairman of Citizens International hockey club, Dr. K.D. Asante elected President of the Association and Madam Elizabeth King it’s vice.
The congress had in attendance delegates from the member bodies, club officials, umpires and the media.
The Congress started with a closing and farewell speech from now ex- president, Lawyer Richard Akpokavie. Lawyer Akpokavie thanked all who had helped during his tenure of office making mention of Mr. Adolf Adjei, John Nyarko, Edmond Zankoh, Richard Abaidoo and his fellow executives as well as the board.
He also thanked the security services, financial institutions, technical directors and officials, clubs and players for helping him take Ghana hockey to its current status.
Sixteen (16) delegates; a rep each from the ten regions, a rep from Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA), Ghana Technical University Sports Association (GHATUSA), Security Services Sports Association, Coaches body, Women Hockey and Ghana Education Service (GES) voted to elect the President and Vice with the positions of Honorary Treasure and the two Ordinary Members going unopposed.
Dr. K.D. Asante received 9 out of the total 16 votes to beat Mr. Amo-Gottfried who had 7 votes to emerge the Association’s President.
The Vice president position went to African Hockey Federation Treasurer-Madam Elizabeth King who also had 9 votes as compared to her opponent Mr. Kwame Owusu who had 7 votes.
Mr Albert Ofori was elected Honorary Treasurer with Mr. Frank Oti-Mensah and Grace Ankomah voted the Association’s two ordinary executive members.
“This is the time where we come together irrespective of our affiliation to champion the course”, Dr K.D Asante said after sworn-in.
“The challenges are enormous as we all know mostly funding, infrastructure, hence we need all to come on board and help”, he added.
“On behalf of all executives elected, i would like to thank our predecessors for what they did and also thank everyone here present for coming”, he concluded.
