Africa Hockey schedules new host and date for 2017 Hockey Africa Cup of Nations
Africa Federation of Hockey (AfHF) has confirmed that the 2017 Hockey African Cup of Nations (ACN) will see Egypt as the new host nation for this year’s event. The event will begin from 19th to 29th of October this year.
The event which had an earlier date was changed due to issues yet to be released by the federation The tournament will host both male and female teams of countries that will make their turn to this event.
Countries that are likely to feature in this years tournament include 7 times male and 6 times female champions South Africa, Hockey World League Round 2 reps – Ghana and Egpyt, Kenya Nigeria, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Botswana and Zambia.
Ghana’s male Blacksticks have participated in this event for the 10th time with 1 Gold medal (1974) and 3 Bronze medals (1983, 2005, 2009) whilst the female Blacksticks will be making their 5 appearances for the country with 4 Silver medals (2005, 2009, 2013, 2015).
The federation would, on the 28th of October, also hold an AfHF congress to discuss issues pertaining to Africa Hockey and its development.
