AMS, Australian Commission donates to CI.
Africa Mining Services (AMS) and Australian Commission – Ghana, last Saturday, presented an amount of GHS 20,000 and GHS 9,000 respectively to Citizens International Hockey Club (CI) ahead of this year’s CIIS Hockey Fiesta. The Australian Commission added some stick bags, hockey sticks, hockey balls and a jersey signed by every member of the hockeyroos (Australian female hockey team). The new sponsors promised to support the event for years ahead and also the junior national teams.
Speaking to the media during the event, Adelaide Boye, a rep from AMS, thanked the club for such a wonderful initiative and also promised a long lasting relationship. ‘We are glad to be part of such an idea and will continue to stick forever. We hope the youth take the game serious and get to the level where we can compete with the likes of Australia and possibly beat them’, she said.
The Australian high commissioner, H.E Andrews Barnes, who was also in attendance, reiterated the need in supporting lesser known sports. He together with his children are hockey players and wants to help develop the game in the country
Chairman of the club, Dr K.D. Asante expressed his profound gratitude for their support towards the dreams Citizens International (CI) has for hockey in Ghana and second cycle schools. He promised to make the tournament grow bigger and better to the international level. He noted that “CIIS hockey fiesta will get to the international level in some years to come. We promise to move this sport higher in some years to come” he said.
The two-day tournament begins this Friday 15th June at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium.
