Ashanti and Central outweigh opponents in Day 2
Day 2 of the Inter-Regional Hockey Festival saw five games played with Ashanti dominating the charts with 7 goals against Central’s 6.
Ashanti played their first game of the tournament at 7:00 am scoring 2 goals against their counterparts from Volta. Ashanti’s Agyei Rachael in the 6th minute made the first impact for the team as she drove pass her opponents defence to score on a counter attack. Diana Boateng, after 6 minutes of the first goal, doubled the lead for Ashanti to win their first game.
Central stunned Upper West with a 2 nil thriller as goals were scored in the first 8 minutes of the game. Antwi Doris scored her second for Central in the 5th minutes whilst Kwaah Ruth topped up in the 8th minute. Upper West, even though beaten, kept their composure to keep up the scoreline as Central failed to utilize chances in the second half.
Northern held Greater Accra to a goalless draw after defending through out the entire 50 minutes. In the penalty shoot out, Greater Accra secured another point pushing 4 out 5 balls whilst Nothern failed to push one pass Greater Accra’s goalkeeper.
Penalty kicks decided the fate of Eastern and Volta as both teams ended 50 minutes of game play goalless. After both teams lost thei first two respective kicks, it was Eastern who defied all odds pushing two spot kicks to earn another point against Volta.
Ashanti finally broke the deadlock of day two scoring 5 goals to top their table with 6 points. Rose Yeboah scored double in the 7th and 8th minutes to give her side the advantage in the early parts of the game. Agyei Rachael in the 26th minute scored her second of the day just after second half commenced. Ashanti made it 5 in the 34th and 46th minutes with goals from Owusua Margaret to prove their supremacy.
