BELGIUM CROWNED CHAMPIONS IN JOHANNESBURG

The Red lions of Belgium capped a fine tournament in Johannesburg by beating Die Homanas in the finals of the men’s hockey world league. After a perfect start to the tournament, the top scoring nation Belgium rounded up by beating Germany 6-1 in the final. The Germans who wanted to avenge the defeat suffered in their pool game with Belgium rather had their hopes crushed in grand style. In the 3-4 classification match, world champions, Australia beat Spain to pick the 3rd spot. The Kookaburras beat the Red Sticks by 8-1 in a game which was one-sided from start to finish.

Individual awards
Captain of the Germans, Mats Grambusch emerged the tournament’s best player.
Though he conceded 8 goals in his last game, Spain’s Quico Cortes won the Best Goalkeeper accolade. Belgium duo Arthur Van Doren and Tom Boon (7 goals) won the best young player and top scorer award respectively.
