CAPE COAST DOMINATES BOYS AND GIRLS HOCKEY SPLASH MAIDEN EDITION

The Central Regional Hockey Association Organized a tournament dubbed, “BOYS & GIRLS HOCKEY SPLASH” with the agenda of promoting hockey and giving more playing time to young players.
The one day event featured four communities, Cape Coast, Elmina, Ntranoa and Winneba all in the Central Region at the University of Cape Coast’s hockey field. There were 3 categories, Under 12, Under 15 and Under 18 which featured both boys and girls’ teams.
The tournament saw great hockey skills and play from the lads and lasses between the ages of 6 and 18. After several matches played Cape Coast dominated by winning the Under 15 and Under 18 boys group and Ntranoa winning Under 18 girls category. There was a match between two Under 12 teams meant to give the children playing time and help develop their skills.
Ghana Hockey Association (GHA) presented some items which included sets of jerseys, bibs and sticks. The Coordinator and Head of the Central Region Hockey Association, Mr John Benedict Nyarko mentioned the challenges they faced in organizing the Tournament in terms of sponsorship and hence called on people, groups and other bodies to come on board and support since they wish to organize it annually.
Mr Kofi Bentum Wilson who is also the Chairman of Central Region Hockey Association also insinuated on the challenges and mentioned that they want to start a league and hence needs logistics, sponsorship and any form of help that will aid them promote hockey in the Central Region as well.
