Eastern Region: Day of goals as 2018 Zonal Hockey competition starts

The wait is finally over as the 2018 Eastern Region Zonal hockey competition commenced. With a lot at stake, players and teams treated hockey lovers and faithful to the best they can witness with regards to hockey in the country.

The Pope John’s and KSTS hockey fields hosted the boy’s and girl’s divisions respectively. Both divisions were divided into four Pools.

Pool A included defending champions Persco, Mampong Presec, AMEST and WBM. The opening match of the competition saw Persco beat Mampong Presec by a lone goal with WBM 4-0 winners on penalties over AMEST after a 1-1 drawn game within normal time.

Co-Host KOTEC, YIKROSEC and OKUASS make up teams in Pool B. The only game in that pool for match day one witnessed a 3-2 win on penalties for OKUASS against YIKROSEC after both teams failed to score within regulation time.

In Pool C,  Kukurantumi Saviour registered their first ever win at the competition after beating Suhum Presec 2-1 on penalties.

The final Pool in the boy’s division, saw KiSHTS register a 2-1 victory over AKSTECH on penalties.

 

In the girl’s division, Mampong Presec defeated KiSHTS by a lone goal with KRISTECH repeating the same scoreline in their match against SPATS to round up matches in Pool A for day one.

In Pool B, Suhum Presec were able to hold WBM to a goalless drawn game only to lose 3-1 on penalties. WBM made it two wins in two with another victory on penalties over GHANASS.

AKSTECH showed dominance in Pool C with two victories and 6 goals scored in as many matches. A 3-0 victory over both YIKROSEC and APSEC ensured qualification for the Oda lads to the next stage.

With a mindset of title defence, champions OBOSS brought the curtains down for match day one with a 3-2 victory over AMEST on penalties.

The competition continues on Thursday 29th November, 2018 with the likes of MPASS, APSTS and NJUASCO all in action.
