GHANA AWARDS SOUTH AFRICA(G.A.S.A)NOMINATES MICHAEL KOFI BAIDEN

The annual ceremony which recognizes and reward Ghanaians based in South Africa who show excellence in all areas of life from business to sports, entertainment to public service the arts and charitable works is scheduled this year for 26th August, 2017 at ASANKA Restaurant, located at Corner of Rivonia Road and Mutual Rd, Sandton in South Africa.

 

The ceremony celebrates the achievement of Ghanaians in a highly anticipated first class, red carpet event banquet, with entertainment, dance and music. It is also organized to encourage and stimulate innovation and ground-breaking work that benefits both Ghana and South Africa. Ghanaians based in South Africa who continue to uplift the flag of their country in their various fields.

This year’s edition promises much excitement as one Ghana Black Sticks’ own, Michael Kofi Baiden has had public nominations with his outstanding performance in South Africa and in the Ghana National Hockey Men’s Team.

 

The 22-year-old who is said to hail from Apam in the Central Region, plays for Kovsies in the University Of The Free State in South Africa where he recently graduated. He made his first appearance in the Olympic Qualifier in 2015 in South Africa.

His impact was strongly felt as he registered a brace in his first ever match for Ghana and went on to score in all matches except the match against South Africa. He made it to the World League Round One which was staged in Accra in September 2016. His play was much enviable and just as he does it; he had 3 goals to his credit. He went on to fight with the team as they qualified to the Round Two of the Hockey World League Series in March 2017, in Bangladesh. He has 17 caps so far and is expected to appear in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations later this year in Egypt.

 

In a close discussion with some team mates in the Black Sticks, they described Michael to be a very humble chap by all standards, an excellent team player who amazingly fitted into the team in his first meeting with the team in South Africa. As a youngster bred in South Africa, it was with so much ease to mingle and share ideas with team mates.
