Ghana Hockey rounds up for Round 2
From the 4th – 12th of February, 2017, the female national hockey of Ghana, Blacksticks, would be joining Czech Republic, Russia, Turkey, Poland, Scotland, Ukraine, and host nation – Spain for the Round 2 of the 2016-2017 Women’s FIH World League.
Ahead of this tournament, the female Blacksticks have begun rigorous and intense training as they represent Africa in this contest. The team won all matches in the first round of the contest and would want to continue with the same momentum. With this in mind, Ghana’s Hockey Association has sought the support of some technical advisors from UK Sport and England Hockey to support the team as they build up to the next round.
Siegfried Aikman – a Dutch field hockey coach would be joining the team from the 26th – 30th of January to assist the team as they prepare in Ghana. The team would then depart from the country with Darren Cheesman, who’s also an FIH high performance coach to assist the team as the journey up for success in Valencia, Spain.
Ghana would play Poland, Scotland and Ukraine in Pool B whiles host nation – Spain, Czech Republic, Russia and Turkey would battle for supremacy in group A.
England Hockey has also donated some hockey equipment and cloth to help improve the game in Ghana. These donations are steered towards the TAP West Africa Project which is deemed to take place this March. Lucy Rowe and her team would be in the country on February to help the Association plan ahead of the project.
