Inter-Regional Hockey (Day 2) – Goals Galore
Central 7-0 Brong Ahafo
The host region, Central region locked horns with their counterparts from the Brong Ahafo region in the first match of the day. The host, in this first encounter registered 7 unanswered goals to announce their presence. The entire game was full of excitements. There was total dominance on the side of the host as their squad featured most players who play in the Sapholda Hockey League. Nii Aryee Sampson and Prince Andoh scored a hat-trick and a brace respectively. Obeng Stanley and Addae Godsway also scored one each to amass the three maximum point for Central Region.
Walk over for Eastern Region
Eastern Region had a walk over as Northern Region couldn’t represent a boys’ team.
Central 2-0 Western
Central Region again faced Western Region in the last game of the day. This encounter which was more like a local debut, was the most competitive match of the day.
The favorites, Central Region started the game in a rather dull mood which they attributed to fatigue from their first match. Western Region were up to the tasked as they posed much threats on the defense of the Central Region team.
Gradually into the mid minutes of the first half, Benjamin Kwofie scored a screamer to put Central region in the lead. In the second half, both teams couldn’t find the back board until the 53rd minute when Godsway Addae doubled the score for Central Region. The game ended 2:0 and Central region stays on top of the group.
Greater Accra 7-0 Upper East
Defending Champions Greater Accra equaled the record of 7goals in a match as they faced Upper East in group A. The Upper East boys could just not match the defending champions. Despite numerous chances wasted by the Accra boys, they still had the glory of also scoring the most goals in match.(Equal with Central Region). Greater Accra’s skipper, Selorm Satifialor tops the goal chart with 4 goals from this very match. Armah Desmond, Oluwasina Emmanuel and Peprah Joshua(c) also scored one each. Greater Accra also tops Group B so far.
Upper West 1-2 Volta
In another encounter, Upper West faced Volta in a very interesting match.
Upper West took the lead in the first half (9mins). Their performance showed some improvements which we could attributed to their familiarity with the game over the very few days the competition has been played.
However, Volta Region who from the first match had sound some caution of the threats they could pose equalized in the second half quickly through a beautifully converted penalty corner in the 37th minutes, courtesy Appiah Francis.They took the lead with another Penalty Corner in the 42nd minutes by Agripa Gideon.The match ended 2-1 in favour of Volta Region.
