GRA grabs massive win to go top.
Defending league champions, GRA Men last Saturday, defeated Legon Knights at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium to go top of the league standings.
The 2017 ACCC bronze medalist started the game on a bright note and were awarded a penalty corner in the 2nd minute. Ernest Opoku stepped up and made no mistake as his drag flicked effort found the top right corner of Bernard Awuah’s goalpost to put GRA in-front. GRA were 2-0 up seven minutes later as Ernest Opoku this time around the provider, setting up Nick Hanson to get his first of five goals for the night.
Awuku Daniel added a third in the 17th minute from Damalie Luke’s penalty corner rebound before Hanson grabbed his personal brace five minutes later. Ernest Opoku completed his hat-trick of penalty corners in the 25th and 43rd minutes to put the game beyond reach of the Knights.
Nicholas Hanson completed his hat-trick in the 44th minute before adding two more goals in the last quarter to give the champions a 9-0 win.
Johnny Botsio starred in his début as Police Men beat Ark Men 5-1 earlier in the day to make up for their disappointing defeat last weekend. Veteran Sam Benedict opened the gates in the 12th minute from the spot. Mills Titus doubled the lead for the law enforcers in the 21st minute before Sam Benedict made it 3-0 from the spot again three minutes later.
Johnny Botsio then came into action as he scored two to make it 5-0. The former trustees player got his first from a penalty corner inside 28 minutes before getting a brace from his trademark “tomahawk” in the 54th minute. Mensah Daniel managed to pull one back for ark men in the 60th minute but time was not on their side as the final whistle went.
In the women’s category, Police Ladies on Friday, had Martha Sarfo come to their rescue as she scored from a Nafisatu penalty corner rebound in the 40th minute. The 2018 gala champions were eager to win in order to maintain top spot but Reformers goalkeeper Ampem Darkoa proved the stumbling block. The Ghanaian international ensured that her team were in the game from the start of game till the 40th minute when they conceded.
The ladies from Ghana prisons service tried all they could but the game ended 1-0 in favor of Ghana police ladies.
GRA ladies on the other hand thrashed Real Ambassadors ladies 13-0. Vivian Narkuoh scored a poker (27th, 38th, 53rd and 60th minute), Seddoh Philipa grabbing a hat-trick (14th, 20th and 44th minute) with Elizabeth Opoku also getting a brace (6th and 30th minute). Adampa Janet, Otoo Eleanor, Effah Linda and Monica Grant also got their names on the score-sheet to wrap up a convincing win for the royal ladies.
In the women’s final match, Extinguishers grabbed their first win of the season against Ark Ladies. Ackon Doris’ 12th minute strike was cancelled out in the 35th minute by Ark Ladies’ Odunkor Teye. Extinguishers grabbed all maximum points as Margaret Owusuwaa got the winner in the 41st minute.
Tema Manhean managed a 2-0 win over Ark Boys to grab their first win in the juvenile category. Nii-Noi Prince (12th min) and Ofori Sampson (30th min) got the goals for Manhean.
Kasoa Heroes succumbed to their 3rd straight defeat in the league to Young financiers in the other game. Tagoe Joseph’s 4th minute strike was enough to give the boys in green their second win in as many games.
In the master category, Citizens International made it a historic three wins out of three games against Golden Sticks beating them by 3-0.
Defending champions, Sapholda came from a goal down to pip NDK Finaciers 6-1.
