GRA, Police Ladies, Multistix and T.I Amass emerge champions in T-Tommy Hockey Tournament
GRA men triumphed in the 29th edition of the T-Tommy Hockey Tournament after scoring team Police by a lone goal in the finals.
The 2-day tournament, which started on Saturday and ended Sunday, consisted of 2 men’s Group with Kumasi Main, Exchequers, Bibian HC & Central Region HC in group A and Police, GRA, Trustees and Kumasi Unique in Group B. The masters group saw Multistix, Citizens International and Kumasi Seniors paired up for an all play all event. Police Ladies, GRA Ladies and Kumasi ladies made up the Women’s Group whiles T.I Amass, Presby Girls and OKESS made up the Girls group.
T.I Amass won the girls trophy after beating Presby Girls by 2 goals and drawing with OKESS. This was their 2nd trophy of the week as they won their first at the just ended Kumasi’s inter-schools hockey competition.
Police Ladies shocked GRA after Martha Safoa scored the only goal in the women’s first game. They finally sealed up the title race by beating Kumasi Ladies by 3 goals to nil. Police Ladies have made history winning the Women’s trophy at their first appearance at the event.
2017 Aboakyer winners, Citizens Int. failed to record a point after playing all 2 games in the
Master’s catergory. After full time in the last game, Multistix proved outstanding, scoring Kumasi Seniors 2 conceptual goals to pick up the Masters trophy.
Finally in the Men’s group, GRA and Police of group B managed to book themselves in the semi-finals after placing first and second. Exchequers of group A won all three games to book its first place in the semi-finals. They were later joined by Kumasi Main after they managed 4 points with a no goal difference ahead of Bibiani who had the same points but with a minus 2 difference.
In the semi-finals, Police Men and Exchequers ended in a goalies draw after full-time with penalty shootout to decide. Police won the shootout after pulling 4 out of 5 shoots whiles Exchequers managed 3 out of 5.
Kumasi Main fought keenly with GRA but lost in the end when GRA managed a goal at the end of full-time
In the finals, Christopher of GRA converted a penalty stroke to make sure GRA grabs its second consecutive Kumasi’s T-Tommy Hockey Tournament tittle.
This event has been in existence since 1988 and its core aim is to remember men who have contributed to develop hockey in the Ashanti Region, creating an enabling environment for hockey clubs in Ghana socialize, selection process for big clubs.
