Inter Regional Hockey: Smiles and Shocks

After a short briefing with officials and technical men from the various regions, the grounds were set to push start the first match between the Greater Accra Region and the Northern Region. Northern Region could not raise a team to compete in the boys division. As an open match, it denied the entire hockey boys competition to start on a good note. However, Greater Accra had a walk over with the usual 3 points and 3 goals.

The inability for Northern Region to raise a boys team has its reasons still on hold, undergoing research and facts finding. Isports360 shall report on this misery.

The second game of the day between Ashanti Region and Eastern Region was rated a high profile match with hockey enthusiasts in the environs of cape coast filling the University of Cape Coast Hockey Pitch.

The match began with a well balanced attack from both sides. Ashanti Region, through Owusu Acheaw was quick to take the lead in the 8th minute.
Pressure being mounted on the Eastern Region side after the first goal, saw the Ashanti Region team dominating the game even until they confirmed their win in the 20th minute, courtesy Bohsie Amoako. (Captain of the side).

Kissi Nyarko of the Eastern side, pulled one back in the second half at the 57th minute. Eastern Region worked tirelessly to pull a draw in the entire game but were surprised by Abotsi Daniel when he found the back of the net in the 59th minute. The game ended 3-1 in favour of Ashanti Region.

The last game of the day was the surprise of the day. Western Region were beaten by a goal to nil by Volta Region, who many may refer to them as the underdogs.

Kattah Bright carried his team on his shoulders in the 27th minute when he made use of a half chance. Western Region made all efforts throughout the game to equalize but all efforts proved futile.
