Rough start for the Blacksticks
The Male Blacksticks of Ghana kick started their 2016-17 world league round 2 campaign, losing to the Chinese national team by 7 goals to 3.
China’s, E Wenlong opened the score with 3 minutes into the game with a splendid field goal. Du Talake and E Liguang increased China’s tally to 3 in the 12th and 15th minutes of the game from a penalty corner and another field goal. Su Lixing made it 4 in the 21st minute, through a well struck field goal.
Michael Kofi Baiden gave the Blacksticks a chance in the 23rd when he scored a splendid field goal putting Ghana into the game. Johnny Botsio recorded his name on the score sheet with 2 minutes to end the game. First Half ended 4-2 in favour of China.
Guo Jing and E Wenlong increased the tally for China to 6 in the 42nd and 53rd minutes. Baiden of the Blacksticks bounced back to reduce the goals conceeded in the 56th minute but the goal got cancelled in the 58th minute by AO Suozhu to end the game in favour of China.
China becomes the first team to win their first game beating Ghana 7-3. Ghana places 3rd on the table after Sri-Lanka lost to Egypt by 6 goals to 2. Ghana’s Blacksticks face Sri-Lanka tomorrow, 5th March, 2017 at 3:15 GMT.
