Southern Ghana dominate girls regional hockey
Western, Upper West and Brong Ahafo regions had a terrible day 1 as they conceded massively to their counterparts at the St. Augustine’s school field.
Antwi Doris gave Central Region the upper hand over Western Region in the 11minute to record the first goal of the tournament. Akong Doris (32 mins), Essilfie Regina (32mins) and Ofori Priscilla (49 mims) added 3 more goals to become the first and only girls team to score 4 goals at the end of day 1.
Greater Accra Region did the unthinkable in the 17th minutes as Gbagado Francisca pushed past the Upper West Region’s goal keeper to give her side the upper hand in the first half. Upper West defence lost focus to allow a loose ball from Gyimah Mensah (50th mins) bypass the goalkeeper. Greater Accra celebrated with style as they won their first game by 2 goals to nil.
The last match of the day was between Eastern Region and Brong Ahafo with Sarfoa Esther (10min) giving Eastern Region a fast break. She made a powerful hit in the D of Brong Ahafo region to announce their presence. Ameyaa Felicia doubled the tally 37th minute when Brong Ahafo least expected. Eastern Region cleared their till the last whistle to pick all three points.
Kumasi girls will tomorrow unleash their talents as they play their first game against the Voltarians. Central Region will battle up with Upper West whilst Greater Accra mix it up with the Northern Region as third match of the day. Eastern and Volta would have their share of fight whilst Ashanti finally fist up with Upper East.
