University of Ghana host Inter-Hall Hockey Competition

The annual Inter-Hall sports competition of the University of Ghana will  commence on October 3, 2016 with football, handball, volley and basketball among others. This edition (53rd) of the competition is geared towards the development of sports in Ghana and the nurturing of upcoming talents across the nation who need a little bit of exposure to come to the limelight.

In the school’s quest to promote the game of hockey, an inter hall hockey competition has also been included to this year’s sports competition. A total of 11 teams (7 males and 4 females) will compete for the crown.

In the men’s category we have:

Akuafo Hall, Mensah Sarbah Hall, Legon Hall, Common Wealth Hall, Africa Union Hall, Elizabeth Sey Hall and Valco Hall

The women’s category also includes:

Legon Hall, Akuafo Hall, Volta Hall and Mensah Sarbah Hall

FAST FACTS ABOUT UNIVERSITY OF GHANA INTER HALL HOCKEY COMPETITION

Akuafo Hall has won the trophy three consecutive times in the men’s category and emerged champions with a clean sheet in the 2015 edition.

Legon Hall has triumphed with the highest number of trophies in the last decade.

Some notable national players have also played in this particular tournament as far as history is concerned. Elikem Akaba (Akuafo Hall), Alfred Ntiamoah (Legon Hall), Jefferey Karikari (Common Wealth Hall), Elizabeth Opoku (Legon Hall) and Janet Adampah ( Mensah Sarbah Hall).

NDK Financial Services Sponsored the tournament with trophies in 2010.

Elizabeth Opoku contested for Akuafo Hall in her first two years during her stay on campus. She later on moved to Legon Hall to compete in her last two years. She performed amazingly and also won the trophy with both teams.
