“We are still title contenders “, Coach Attipoe
With just three weeks to the commencement of another intriguing season, the attention and focus is on title holders Exchequers Hockey Club.
After an exciting performance locally last season, the bankers took to the continental stage once again but failed to make any impression placing fourth. A very young and energetic squad was praised by all who watched them play in Abuja with most spectators and hockey enthusiasts predicting Exchequers ruling Africa in two years time.
However, things did not go as expected- the bankers have been hit with a major blow as majority of those players are now on course to join the Ghana Army and Prison services and many are predicting doom for the bankers in the coming season. It looks very difficult on paper but Head Coach Richmond Attipoe believes otherwise.
‘We are still the title holders and will go all out to defend the trophy. The league season is yet to get underway and people have started crowning champions… and writing off other teams?”, he said.
“This is not the first time i have to face such a situation as a coach. I lost players to Ghana Police years ago and yet still managed to get players on board to become such a formidable force. We have started intense training and trust me, Exchequers will still be a force to reckon with”, he added.
“We may have lost players but we haven’t lost Exchequers Hockey Club. As I always do, new players are in the pipeline and we are anxiously waiting for the league to commence so the entire hockey populace can witness it. Never write-off Exchequers when it comes to Hockey in Ghana”, he concluded.
The league is set to commence in the second week of April, 2019.
