”…we can pull a surprise for sure”-Elikem Akaba

Exchequers Hockey Club alongside Team Police (Male and Female) and GRA LADIES would be representing the country in this year’s Africa Cup for Club Championship in Kenya from 7th – 15th January. This event is organized by the African Hockey Federation (AfHF) to help promote and also familiarize nations that play the sport.

Ahead of the games tomorrow, Exchequers skippers – Elikem Akaba and Emmanuel Ankomah have assured Ghanaians of proving the impossible. Both captains were strong that their side would make an impact in this year’s tournament even though 70% of the players including skipper Emmanuel Ankomah are making their debut in the club championship.

Elikem Akaba said “first matches are always difficult but I believe its a match that we can compete to win for sure”. He also added that “even though some of the players are here for the first time, they have had different experiences at different levels under different circumstances……. hopefully it will come together for good”.

Akaba noted that he has confidence in the teams (both male and female) representing the country even though one is representing the country for the first time. He said that “Team Police comprises of experienced individuals who make up the team and their first time as a club in this championship would hail if they click well”.

He finally noted that the lads of his team are representing Ghana to pull a surprise and its not impossible to come home for the trophy because that’s what they’ve been training for.

Exchequers, 1st runner ups Greater Accra Hockey league 2016, are in Pool A with Eastern Company (EGY), Kenya Police Team (KEN), Wananchi Men (UGANDA) and Weatherhead Men (UGANDA). They play Weatherhead Men (UGANDA) as the opening match of the tournament at 08H15 Kenya time.
