Who goes home after tomorrow?

By P K Acheampong

The annual Beige Capiltal Knockout continues this weekend at the Natioal Hockey pitch in Accra.

This week, the remaining teams face their co-equals in terms of strength, skills, energy, strategies and tactics. Last week, we witnessed the exit of Ark Ladies and Real Ambassador Ladies from the competition. Who will loose it in this year’s race ?

Men
At 0630 hrs, the Men’s group A would open the day as Reformers and Legon Knight take on each other. Reformers beat Legon Knights in the just ended Greater Accra Hockey league by a goal to nil and would be looking forward to extend the lead. Legon Knights would have to prove beyond all possible doubt as this would be their final match in this year’s knockout.

Masters
0800 hrs would be debatable as a lot of calculation would be made for the Masters group B match. GBC needs to win with 2 goals difference or more to top their group whiles Citizens International would have to Win or draw in order to maintain their group leadership. Who will it be?

Next would be the Master’s group A match between Veterans and NDK Financiers. It is going to be a no retreat no surrounded game, as Veterans would bring their Koforidua club guys to aid them stop NDK Finanaciers who also need a win/draw to also move on to the last round next weekend.

Women
The ladies group A match, between GRA and Reformers will kickstart at 1100hrs. These two teams were First and Third in the just ended 2016 Greater Accra Hockey league respectively. Would Reformers sit back and accept defeat as they are presented with a chance to rewrite history as the year dies out. Who will qualify in this group for finals next week.

Also, in the ladies group B pool, Police would welcome Extinguisher at 1300 hrs. Police ladies are dominated with female national team players as compared to Extinguishers but currently Extinguishers are in the lead with the highest number of goals. Can the Police fight with their guns or their attacking force would be quenched by water of the Extinguishers ?
Finally, the Men’s group B would entertain a match between GRA and Ark Men. GRA needs all three points to push them to the top whiles the newly promoted Men’s team, Ark men, would want to motivate themselves with a win so as to qualify to the next stage.
