YOUTH LEAGUE NEEDS MORE ATTENTION

Report by P. K. Acheampong

The Youth divisional teams  have ended their league for the year 2016. Check out league table beneath

Real Ambassadors, who have been the league leaders for 3 consecutive times, have won the league again. Even though 11 key players were transfered to the Men’s A league side (Teams) namely Trustees (5), Reformers (3),GRA (3), they built themselves by training more young ones to match up their style of play and the end result is yours to see . Congratulations and keep the good work of unearthing young and future national stars for hockey development in Ghana .

2nd is Young Financiers who have also transferred about 10 key players over 2 years(2014-2016) to the Men’s A league teams namely Exchequers(2),GRA (2) , Ark Men (1) n legon Knight (5). Congrats by the way but better luck next season.

Tema Manhean placed 3rd and we congratulate the young boys and their coach for coming back after 2 years (2013-2015) staying-out of the league due to transfer of their 6 core players in 2013 to the Men’s A league teams – Trustees (5) and Golden Sticks (1). To bounce back and marry the third position is really a great deal.

Tema Youth, who were one’s untouchable galloped, the 4th position in this year’s youth league. The computerized placement system of JHS graduates handicapped the team making it difficult to play as they used to. They need a coach who can help them train and thus train more players to better themselves. I hope their players would be around for next year’s season.

Ark Boys settle at the buttom of the table with no point. Ark boys, this year lost all 4 matches played and conceded only 3 goals. They struggled this year with their “one way” style of play which made that easy for its counterparts to overweigh them easily. This is a juvenile team of Men’s League, Ark Men, raised to unearth new young talents in the field of Hockey. After the league for a year, I hope they go back to the drawing board by learning, training and recaliberating their style.

The Youth league is the back bone of Hockey in Ghana, therefore the managment of these future stars should be in the minds of our leaders. For example, La Juniors who participated last year were not able to represent in this year competition due to some financial challenges. Financial constrains and the level of motivation for these young stars  e minimal, thus creating distorted minds about their career in hockey. They are our future Black Sticks and should be treated as such.
