The Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) is an association that organizes sporting competitions for public universities in Ghana.
These sporting competitions is organized to create unity among universities and athletes. It is also a platform for athletes to showcase their talents and be selected to represent the country in international University tournaments and also various national teams of sporting disciplines.
Until last month, the Association was made up of 9 member public institutions with University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, and University of Cape Coast as founding members.
Founded in 1966, 6 other public institutions have joined the movement namely; University of Education Winneba, University of Professional Studies Accra, University of Mines and Technology Tarkwa, University of Energy and Natural Resources Sunyani, University of Development Studies and University of Health and Allied Sciences Ho.
The Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) and the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) have officially joined the member institutions thereby increasing the number to 11. The Association is factually growing in numbers from year to year.
The recent add on has incited the host institution of the upcoming GUSA Games, University of Ghana to alter the tournament logo which was launched earlier this year.
The logo which depicted the tower of the Great Hall of the University of Ghana, an athlete in representing 3 categories of sports (ball games, racket games and Athletics) and 9 stars which represented the 9 member institutions.
The 9 stars, has earlier today been increased to 11 symbolizing the inclusion of GIJ and GIMPA in the games.
The date of the games still remain 4th to 19th January, 2019 at the University of Ghana.
