Exchequers at it again as Reformers ladies stun Police and GRA.

The 2020 Greater Accra Hockey league season’s curtain raiser was worth the hype as clubs treated spectators to the best of hockey display. The 2020 GAHA gala came to an exciting end at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey stadium on Saturday 14th March, 2020 with Exchequers, Reformers ladies, Multi Stix and Real Ambassadors boys all winners on the day.

The much anticipated gala commenced in the early hours of Saturday Morning with Exchequers beating Police Men by a lone goal. The Champions were then held to a goalless drawn game by Legon Knights. Exchequers however grabbed a place in the final as the Knights lost their second game to Police Men by a lone goal.

GRA who were paired with Reformers Men in the other group lost their place in the final after the men from the Ghana Prisons Service defeated them in the second game by a lone goal. The bankers (Exchequers) in the final made no mistake as they beat Reformers 2-0 to clinch the trophy.

In the Women’s division, Reformers ladies stunned Police and GRA to lift the trophy. The three teams drew against each other during the round robin format. With all three teams tied at 2 points, the winner had to be decided on penalties. Reformers beat both GRA and Police ladies on penalties to emerge winners of the 2020 GAHA gala.

Real Ambassadors continued their dominance in the youth division with a 2-1 victory over Sapholda Academy in the final. Both teams with a great display in the group stages outplayed their opponents to set up an epic final. With the scores levelled after regular time, the winner had to be decided on the penalties and the brilliance of the Ambassadors boys during the penalty shuffle settled the tie. 2-1 it ended in favor of Real Ambassadors.

Multi Stix looked to have snatched the bragging rights and dominance in the masters category from Sapholda after winning last year’s league and they continued with a fine display to clinch the 2020 GAHA gala. They beat Sapholda on penalties to lift the ultimate.

The Vice President of GAHA, Mr Derrick Tamakloe in his closing remarks thanked all clubs and stakeholders for playing a crucial role in making the Gala a success.

“We want to express our sincere gratitude to all clubs for participating in the Gala. We also want to thank all stakeholders especially the media for coming in their numbers to cover the Gala. We cannot say much but assure the public of the best when the league commences”, he said.
